"A
Winter Night's Yeow"
Of all the shows Doodoo Wah does, the annual highlight is the seasonal
series, "A Winter Night's Yeow," which runs from mid-December
through early February in six central and northern California cities and
towns, each in a different county.
"A Winter Night's Yeow" was born in December 1995 as a one-night
stand in the Sutter Creek Theatre, on Highway 49 in California's Gold Rush
country. Originally, the show involved Doodoo Wah, cowboy yodeler Sourdough
Slim and his sidekicks, the Saddle Pals, and The Foothillbillys, an old-timey
string band based in a California town named -- honest to God -- Fiddletown.
The show still involves the same people, although the Saddle Pals have split off from Slim to work on their own as Cactus Bob and the Prairie Flower.
"Yeow" runs under a unique format that brings each band to the stage for short sets one after the other, with no "down time" for rearranging the microphones. There are two series of sets like that, and finally all of the groups come together for a closing "Yeow" set that changes every year except that it always includes the concert's signature tune, "Yeow."
If you have never been to a Doodoo Wah concert, this is the one to see. And if you have seen Doodoo Wah, this is still something you shouldn't miss.
